July 14, 2023 Update

CONSTRUCTION NOTIFICATION AND UPDATE

Asphalt patching

Beginning Monday, July 17, crews will patch the asphalt that was removed to form the curb and gutter. This work may impact traffic for periods of time throughout the day. This work should be complete by the end of the day on Monday.

Concrete Placement

Crews will continue to place concrete curbs and sidewalks on the west side of Upper Main Street in the areas that have not been completed. The remaining driveways will also be poured. This work will continue through the week.

Daly Avenue / Hillside Intersection

Construction is underway at the intersection of Daly Ave/ Hillside Avenue. Roads are narrowed to allow work to take place. Please slow down and watch for approaching vehicles in the area.

Pedestrian Access / Traffic Control

One-way traffic control continues to be in place directing all traffic to head southbound from the Main Street / Swede Alley intersection to the Hillside Ave / Daly intersection as shown on the map.

For the safety of all users, please use the east side sidewalk while crews are working on the west side of the corridor. Please pay attention to signs and equipment in the area for everyone’s safety. Grappa is still accessible to all patrons.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Working hours will be Monday through Friday* from 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

Concrete is Being Poured on the West Side of Upper Main this week and next.

Concrete Placement

Crews will be placing the concrete curb beginning this afternoon and continue through the week. This work will take place on the west side of Upper Main Street. Access to homes will be impacted beginning tomorrow and take place for the rest of the week. Once the curb has had time to set, sidewalk placement will follow with driveways being placed following the sidewalk.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Park City Municipal Corporation is constructing traffic and safety improvements for the Upper Main Street area defined by the intersections of Main Street, Swede Alley, Park Avenue, Daly Avenue, and King Road. Improvements include wider sidewalks from the Main Street Swede Alley intersection to the Main Street/Hillside intersection, creating a separation between commercial and residential areas, improving the transit turnaround and Main Street/Hillside Avenue intersection and rehabilitating the asphalt pavement by milling and paving the construction area. Construction is anticipated to be complete in late August / early September.

CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE/UPDATE

June 12-June 16

Beginning this week, crews will move equipment on site and prepare for demolition of the curb and sidewalk on the west side. Activities will include survey work and cutting the asphalt pavement.

Beginning June 19

Crews will shift traffic to the east side of the road in a southbound one-way directional pattern from the Main Street / Swede Alley intersection to the Main Street / Hillside Avenue intersection while they remove and replace the concrete curb and sidewalk. This work is anticipated to take approximately 3-4 weeks. After the west side is complete, crews will move to the east side of the road.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Working hours will be Monday through Friday* from 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

December 8, 2022 Update

City Council has supported moving forward with a two-phased approach for this project. For additional information, please see the December 8, 2022 City Council Staff Report on the project here. Thank you to our focus group of residents and businesses for sharing your time and input on this project.

Project Overview

Phase I: Construct improvements on the location's south end and minor redesign of Main Street & Swede Alley in the summer of 2023. The primary purposes are to provide a balanced separation of the neighborhood and commercial land uses and to improve pedestrian safety and active transportation connectivity.

Phase II: Further evaluate improvements at the intersection of Main Street & Swede Alley for pedestrian safety, placemaking, and traffic patterns. The Project Team proposes to continue engagement focused at the Main and Swede intersection and revisit improvements at a future date to continue a larger community discussion.

Goal: To discuss and identify mobility, accessibility, and traffic calming improvements for the Upper Main Street area. The study area includes the intersections of Main Street, Swede Alley, Park Avenue, Daly Avenue, and King Road. Beginning in May 2022, focus group members comprised of residents and business community representatives have been meeting and working with Park City Municipal staff and project consultants to collaboratively identify key concerns and discuss solutions to improve the safety and design of the upper Main Street intersections. Work on this project will not commence until the project team, and elected officials have had thorough engagement and feedback from focus group members.
