Join Park City Municipal, Recycle Utah, Summit County Health Department, and Snyderville Basin Water Reclamation District in protecting Park City's groundwater and wastewater! Turn in your Fluoros and ski Fluoro free!
Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS), also known as forever chemicals, have been detected in local groundwater wells and wastewater.
- Fluoro ski wax is the probable source of low-level PFAS contamination.
- Banned in advance of the 2022 Winter Olympics.
- 2023 Drinking Water Source Protection Ordinance Banned Fluoro Wax use in Park City.
- Goal to stop continued environmental impacts to groundwater, wastewater and local streams.
- Spring 2023 EPA proposed Drinking Water Regulations – levels in wells and wastewater are above proposed drinking water limits. Final regulation will be issued in 2024. More information about PFAS in Park City’s drinking water can be found here.
What You Can Do to Help
- Ski Fluoro free!
- Requesting local residents, visitors, waxers, and ski shops turn in Fluoro ski wax.
- Accepting Fluoro waxes: predominantly Nordic and Alpine ski race waxes.
- Waxes will be accepted at Recycle Utah near the office door by other hard to recycle items like batteries, light bulbs and ink cartridges.
- Wax can be dropped off at Recycle Utah 24/7 or White Pine Nordic Center. As available, trade in or gain discounts on environmentally friendly wax.
